The Ijaw National Congress (INC) and the Northern Comrade Movement of Nigeria (NCMN) have jointly appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and lower the current petrol pump price to N350 per litre.
This call to action is in response to the recent significant price hikes by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC), which have seen fuel prices soar to as high as N855, N918, and beyond in various locations.
In an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH, INC National Publicity Secretary, Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha, expressed deep concern over the escalating fuel costs.
“The maximum pump price should not exceed N350 per litre,” Oyakemeagbegha emphasized.
“The President must take urgent steps to bring the price down to this level. The recent increase has caused widespread hardship across the nation, affecting various sectors and the general populace.”
Similarly, the Secretary-General of the NCMN, Ahmad Ashir, highlighted the far-reaching implications of the fuel price hike.
“The increase in fuel prices is not only worsening the economic situation but also exacerbating insecurity in northern Nigeria,” he noted.
“Many youths involved in transportation are being forced out of business due to these high costs, which can lead them to engage in criminal activities as an alternative. We urge the President to reduce the fuel price to a level that is affordable for the masses. N350 per litre will be manageable for most Nigerians.”
