Edo 2024: Ighodalo Dismisses Wike’s Influence, Says People Will Decide Next Governor

Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Edo State, has made it clear that the decision on who becomes the next governor of the state lies solely with the Edo people, not with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, or any other political figure.

Ighodalo’s statement was in response to Wike’s claim that he would not support him in the upcoming September 21 governorship election. Wike had stated that Governor Godwin Obaseki brought Ighodalo to his house seeking his support, but he declined, citing past experiences where his supported candidates did not deliver.

However, Ighodalo expressed disappointment with Wike’s statement, saying it didn’t reflect the outcome of their meeting.

He emphasized that as a gentleman, Wike should adhere to his initial word, but if he changed his mind, that’s his prerogative.

Ighodalo confidently stated that the Edo people will decide the next governor, not Wike or anyone else.

He believes in fair governance and creating a better Edo State, and his conversation with Wike ended with the understanding that Wike would mind his own business.

He also assured that if he loses the election fairly, he will concede and congratulate the winner.

However, he’s optimistic about winning, citing the trust the people of Edo State have in him and his party.

His manifesto, “Prosperity for All,” has resonated with the people, and he’s been endorsed by the youths and various stakeholders in the state.
