PDP Governors Defy Wike’s Warning, Support Fubara as Rivers Party Leader

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have collectively stood behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader of the party in Rivers State, disregarding stern warnings from former governor Nyesom Wike.
Wike, now serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had issued a warning to the PDP governors, cautioning them to refrain from interfering in Rivers State’s party affairs. He went as far as threatening to cause chaos in their respective states if they continued to support his estranged godson, Fubara.
Ignoring Wike’s threats, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, of Bauchi State, reaffirmed the governors’ unwavering support for Fubara.
This declaration came during a reception for the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) delegation.
Mohammed emphasized that Fubara, as the highest-ranking PDP member in Rivers State, should naturally oversee the party’s organizational framework.
The NWC delegation endorsed this stance, affirming Fubara’s leadership position.
“The decision to support Governor Fubara is in line with the party’s structure and the rule of law,” Mohammed explained.
“As the primary PDP member in Rivers State, Governor Fubara should rightfully lead the party’s organizational framework.”
Mohammed acknowledged the complex mentor-mentee dynamic between Wike and Fubara but expressed the governors’ commitment to fostering collaboration.
“We are well aware of the relationship between the FCT Minister and the current Governor of Rivers State. Our efforts are focused on facilitating their cooperation, reflecting the values of the PDP.”
The NWC delegation’s endorsement of Fubara’s leadership solidifies the PDP Governors’ Forum’s stance.
The rift between Wike and Fubara stems from disagreements over the party’s leadership and control in Rivers State.
Wike’s influence in the state’s PDP chapter has been significant, but Fubara’s emergence as governor has altered the dynamics.
