The media office of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has released footage showing him visiting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja alongside his successor, Governor Usman Ododo.
Despite his voluntary appearance, Bello was allegedly denied entry.
Recall that the EFCC had declared Bello wanted over allegations of corruption totaling N80.2 billion.
However, upon his arrival at the EFCC office, he was told to leave and return later.
Ohiare Michael, Bello’s Director of Media, claimed that EFCC operatives later surrounded the Kogi government lodge in Abuja, firing shots in an attempt to arrest Bello.
Michael stated that the EFCC should be held accountable if anything happens to the former governor.
“It’s shocking that the EFCC, which had no questions for Governor Bello earlier, is now attempting a forceful arrest,” Michael said. “This needless display of force undermines the EFCC’s credibility in fighting corruption, suggesting instead a political agenda.”
Michael emphasized that Bello’s voluntary appearance demonstrated his willingness to cooperate, making the subsequent arrest attempt unjustified.
