In the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, has emerged as the winner.
According to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, Okpebholo secured a total of 291,667 votes from 18 local government areas (LGAs).
His closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 247,655 votes, while Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) finished third with 22,763 votes.
With this significant lead, Okpebholo is poised to be declared the official winner of the election.
However, the PDP in Edo has called on INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to review the results before announcing the final winner.
Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo, addressed journalists in Benin on Sunday, alleging that the entries made by electoral officers differed significantly from the actual results uploaded on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) IREV portal at the polling units.
