Monday Okpebholo, the Governor-elect of Edo State, has made a commitment to take the South-South state to unprecedented heights when he assumes office.
This pledge comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared him the winner of the highly contested governorship election on Sunday.
Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, secured a total of 291,667 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party trailed behind with 22,761 votes.
In his remarks to reporters on Sunday evening, following his declaration as the winner of the governorship election held on Saturday, Okpebholo expressed profound appreciation to the people of Edo State for entrusting him with the responsibility of governing the state for the next four years.
He acknowledged the trust placed in him and vowed to work tirelessly to ensure that the state reaches new heights of progress and development.
Monday Okpebholo has pledged to build upon the progress made by former governor Adams Oshiomhole and replicate the achievements of Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Akwa Ibom State.
He expressed his gratitude to the people of Edo, saying, “I’m thrilled and thankful for the trust placed in me. A new era is dawning on Edo, and I’m committed to developing and transforming the state to its full potential. I’ll pick up where Adams Oshiomhole left off and draw inspiration from Akpabio’s accomplishments in Akwa Ibom. Edo is poised for a fresh transformation, and with divine guidance, we’ll rise again.”
