A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, has granted bail to Isaac Bristol, identified by the police as the whistleblower behind the PIDOMNigeria account on X.
Bristol was granted bail in the sum of N5 million with one surety of the same amount.
The ruling was made in response to a motion on notice submitted by Deji Adeyanju, lead counsel for Bristol’s legal team.
The motion on notice is a formal application to the court to take a specific action or make a particular decision.
As conditions of the bail, Justice Nwite ordered that Bristol deposit his international passport with the court registry. Additionally, the surety must be a resident of Abuja and provide an affidavit of means, evidence of tax clearance for the past three years, and two passport-sized photographs.
Bristol has been remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre since September 11.
He is facing trial for allegations including treason, mobilizing and soliciting support to compel the government to act or abstain from certain acts through the #EndBadGovernance protests, and making false money-laundering allegations against President Bola Tinubu.
Bristol is also accused of unlawfully obtaining, retaining, and disseminating classified secret documents in contravention of the Official Secrets Act of 1962.
