Nigerian social media influencer, Bobrisky (Idris Okuneye), has taken legal action against internet activist, VeryDarkMan (VDM), seeking ₦1 billion in damages.
Recall that VDM shared a voice recording allegedly of Bobrisky claiming to have bribed EFCC officials with ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges. Bobrisky denied the claims, stating the recording was artificially generated using AI technology.
Bobrisky’s lawyers served VDM with a letter demanding ₦1 billion in damages and a written and video apology within 24 hours, as well as a retraction of the defamatory statements.
Sharing the letter on social media, Bobrisky stated, “I will not tolerate defamation and misinformation.”
The letter in part read;
That our client informed us that in the quest of your social media stardom you have continued to make use of his name, personality and his social media influence to create media buzz for your personal gains.
That it has come to the attention of our client that you recently published an Artificial intelligence generated audio call, claiming that same was between an unnamed individual and our client, for the record our client never had any audio conversation with this fellow who you claim to represent and that your act of defamation and blackmail should be withdrawn against our client within 24 hours of the service of this letter of demand via social media platforms.
That as it relates to our client we demand that you take down immediately the said Artificial intelligence audio recording published as a video by you with your defamatory commentary voiceover which you dangerously and recklessly alleged our client, same is not a product of our client, hence the name, description or anything whatsoever ascribed to our client in the process of your publishing the said defamatory material.
At the time of this report, VDM is yet to respond.
