Dr. Nsikak Akpan, a dedicated lecturer at Foreign Links College of Health Sciences in Moro, Osun State, has shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon lecture.
This remarkable feat was achieved on Sunday, September 29, 2024, after an incredible 150-hour non-stop teaching marathon.
Prior to the event, Akpan had submitted an application to Guinness World Records, bearing the reference number 240427100506lml, which was duly approved.
This clearance paved the way for him to surpass Prof. Arvin Mishra of India’s record of 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds, set in 2014.
At approximately 4:30 am on Sunday, Akpan surpassed the previous record, reaching 142 hours of uninterrupted lecturing.
His remarkable resilience and determination were rewarded when he attained his target of 150 hours around 2:30 pm, sparking jubilation among his students and journalists in attendance.
Despite suffering a medical emergency on Friday, which necessitated immediate treatment, Akpan’s unwavering resolve remained unshaken.
When queried about the incident, he revealed, “It took us two to three months to plan this. When the incident happened, I didn’t consider quitting. I was prepared and continued without hesitation.” Upon receiving medical clearance, Akpan resumed his lecture, undeterred.
When asked about the challenges encountered during his remarkable journey, Akpan noted, “Some individuals doubted our ability to succeed due to financial constraints. However, we persevered and achieved our goal without their support.”
He emphasized the importance of persistence, stating, “Challenges will inevitably arise, but to succeed, one must remain focused and press onward.” Remarkably, despite his exhaustion, Akpan declared, “I don’t feel tired; I feel like I want to continue.”
