Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, has joined the #October1Protest in Lagos State, arriving at the Ikeja Underbridge protest ground at 8:50 am.
Sowore emphasized that this protest marks the people’s rejection of the government’s Independence Day celebration, symbolizing their desire for true independence.
Sowore questioned whether Nigerians have given the government enough chances, citing former President Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged misuse of extended time in office. He highlighted how this additional time resulted in Buhari acquiring a private jet, new houses, increasing fuel prices, and leaving Nigerians in darkness.
“We gave them more time, they gave us minimum wage and gave themselves a maximum wage. Let them resign, that is how we will know they actually understand how people feel this time around,” Sowore stated.
The protest, part of the #FearlessOctober1 movement, is being closely monitored by security personnel, including police, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Despite this, protesters are marching along Awolowo Way, demonstrating their determination for change.
This protest follows the country’s 64th Independence Day, with Nigerians demanding improved governance and accountability.
