Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has accused Elon Musk’s Starlink of violating regulations by unilaterally increasing data tariffs without approval.
NCC views it as a threat to regulatory stability in the telecommunications industry, taking “a dim view” of the infringement.
Starlink’s actions allegedly breached Sections 108 and 111 of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003 and its license conditions. The company filed a request for price adjustment but announced price changes before receiving approval.
As the NCC stated, “We were surprised that the company jumped the gun by announcing price changes…for which the commission has yet to communicate a decision.”
The commission warned that it will “take appropriate enforcement measures against any action by a licensee that is capable of eroding the regulatory stability of the telecommunications industry.”
