TikTok Removes 2.1 Million Videos in Nigeria for Violating Community Guidelines

TikTok has taken action against harmful content on its platform in Nigeria, removing over 2.1 million videos in the second quarter of 2024  to enhance content moderation and create a safer environment for users.
According to TikTok’s Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, released on Tuesday, an impressive 99.1% of the removed videos were proactively taken down before users reported them.
Notably, 90.7% of these videos were removed within 24 hours, showcasing TikTok’s commitment to staying ahead of harmful content.
The report highlighted that the affected videos represent less than 1% of the total uploads in Nigeria during the reporting period.
This indicates that TikTok’s content moderation efforts are effectively targeting and eliminating harmful content.
Globally, TikTok removed over 178 million videos in June 2024, with an impressive 144 million of those removals facilitated through automated systems.
“As highlighted in our Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, we have made significant strides in proactively detecting and removing harmful content,” TikTok stated. “With a proactive detection rate now at 98.2% globally, we are more efficient than ever at addressing harmful content before users encounter it.”
TikTok reassured its users that it will continue investing in technologies aimed at improving content moderation and understanding potential risks. The platform also reaffirmed its dedication to transparency and platform safety for its diverse user base in Nigeria and worldwide.
“Our commitment to safety and transparency remains unwavering,” TikTok emphasized. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure our platform remains a positive and creative space for users.”
