Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, won’t be joining the 2027 presidential race secretly, according to Babatunde Oduyoye, a former member of the House of Representatives and Makinde’s ex-Special Adviser on Strategy and Political Matters.
Oduyoye made this statement during an interview with PUNCH Online in Ibadan, emphasizing that Makinde is a strategic planner who wouldn’t make such a crucial decision without careful consideration.
“I have read reports that Governor Makinde has declared his presidential ambition for 2027, but none of them include an exact quote from the governor,” Oduyoye said.
“I know him, and I know what he would do if he were interested in running for president. As of now, the governor has not done any of those things. So, I am certain that this rumoured ambition is coming from his well-wishers.”
Oduyoye’s statement aligns with Makinde’s own words, as he recently dismissed speculations about his 2027 presidential ambition, stating that he’s focused on building on Obafemi Awolowo’s legacy.
Makinde emphasized that if he decides to run, he’ll openly declare his ambition, saying, “I’m old enough, if I want to do something, I will come out and say, this is what I want to do”.
