The Kano State Government has disbursed N28.4 million to 62 victims of fire disasters in the state.
Governor Abba-Yusuf, represented by Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Hajiya Abdullahi, emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting victims, stating, “We are here to console and support the victims and help ease their pains with this token.”
The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, revealed that the affected individuals lost property valued at N835.9 million. Unfortunately, seven lives were lost, while 11 victims from Dakata small-scale benefited from the gesture.
Kubarachi praised Governor Yusuf, the Nigeria Red Cross, National Emergency Management Agency, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and IDPs, and other stakeholders for their support. NEMA Coordinator Dr. Nuraddeen Abdullahi urged the public, especially women using firewood and charcoal, to handle fire carefully and switch off electrical appliances when not in use.
Ahmadu Sale, a beneficiary from Tudun Wada, Nassarawa Local Government, expressed heartfelt thanks to the government. He shared a poignant story of losing his son, daughter-in-law, and five grandchildren in an inferno caused by an electrical fault earlier in 2024.
