The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has taken into custody Abia lawmaker Alex Mascot Ikwechegh for allegedly assaulting a cab driver in Abuja.
According to Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Abuja Police Command, Ikwechegh is currently undergoing questioning at the Maitama Police Station.”
The incident unfolded when cab driver Stephen Abuwatseya reported the matter to the police, stating that the House of Reps member assaulted him over the method of delivery while he was dropping off a package to Ikwechegh.
Preliminary investigations reveal that this disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in Ikwechegh allegedly slapping Abuwatseya.
After assaulting the driver, he reportedly said, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,”.
Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to impartial investigation and ensuring justice.
Upon completion of the investigation, necessary legal actions will be taken.
