Friday afternoon in Awka, Anambra State, suspected cultists brutally murdered a young man identified as Nonso. This is the third brother in the family to fall victim to cult-related violence.
According to a close family source, Nonso’s killing is linked to the murder of his younger brother, Buchi, who was killed three months ago near MacDon Eatery. The eldest brother had also met a tragic end in a previous attack.
The latest killing occurred in broad daylight near Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), popularly known as Amaku. This area has become a hotspot for cult-related activities.
In recent months, 16 people were killed in Nibo, and seven more lost their lives in the Ifite Awka area. Despite assurances from law enforcement agencies, the bloodshed persists.
Anambra State Police Commissioner, Nnaghe Obono Itam, strongly condemned the latest killing, vowing to leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators. “We will thoroughly investigate and bring those responsible to justice,” he assured.
The Ezinano Awka Community, led by Ozo Jeff Nweke, announced a N10 million bounty for information leading to the capture of the Nibo Massacre perpetrators. The community also issued a stern warning to cultists, urging them to steer clear of Awka and its environs.
“We urge the authorities to take concrete steps to address the root causes of this violence and protect our communities,” said a concerned resident.
