A young man in Anambra State died on Saturday when a police operative attached to Otuocha Area Command shot him over a disagreement at a checkpoint.
The altercation reportedly centered around N100, and one of the policemen, identified as Inspector Sani Suleiman, pulled the trigger, killing the man.
According to sources from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area, the police squad involved was led by Onyebuchi. Youths in the area were protesting at the police action.
The state police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and assured that the command had taken control.
“The Police Officer involved has been identified as Inspector Sani Suleiman. He has been disarmed and detained for further investigations and internal disciplinarian procedures,” Ikenga stated.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, with speculation surrounding whether the argument was over payment of N100 bribe or collection of balance for bribe already paid.
