The minors released by the Federal Government after their involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protests in northern Nigeria have arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This comes after President Bola Tinubu directed the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, to drop the treason charges against them.
According to sources within the presidency, the minors are scheduled to meet with federal government officials in a brief meeting.
Notably, the governors of Kano and Kaduna States are already present to receive the minors and reunite them with their families. The meeting is set to commence at 2 pm at the Auditorium in the State House.
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has been advocating for the release of the minors and the dismissal of charges against all protesters, emphasizing the lack of evidence to support the treason charges. The protests, which took place across several states in August, sparked widespread public discourse on the government’s handling of participants.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice formally notified the Federal High Court in Abuja of the decision to discontinue the case against the protesters, citing relevant constitutional and legal provisions.
