Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the ‘Obidient Movement’, is confident that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, can become Nigeria’s president in 2027.
Tanko made this statement at a symposium titled “Repositioning the Obidient Movement for Greater Impact” in Onitsha, Anambra State, where he emphasized the movement’s commitment to unity, justice, and equity.
According to Tanko, Obi’s potential victory in 2027 hinges on the movement’s ability to come together and prepare adequately for the election. He noted that the 2023 election was marred by electoral malpractice, which denied Obi victory but expressed determination to prevent a repeat in 2027.
“The 2023 general election was not without its challenges,” Tanko said. “We were accused of lacking structure, but Peter Obi won the election. This time, history will not repeat itself. We will have our agents prepared well before the 2027 general election, training and retraining them.”
Tanko also highlighted the movement’s focus on empowering Nigerian youths and advocating for meaningful change and accountability. He emphasized that the Obidient Movement seeks to promote good governance, justice, and equity, aligning with the pursuit of a “new Nigeria”.
“The North is dissatisfied with the current government,” Tanko added. “We will advocate for electoral reform and champion it legally and physically. We will mobilize our people on the streets, in the courts, and present our proposals to the National Assembly.”
