America Returnee Found Dead in Hotel Room, Police Launch Investigation

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the tragic discovery of a 51-year-old man, Sunday Abidoye, found dead in his room at Creestar Hotel, located in the GRA area of Sagamu, Ogun State. The lifeless body of the America-based Nigerian returnee was discovered on Wednesday under mysterious circumstances, prompting an investigation.

In a statement released on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, provided details of the incident. According to her, the hotel’s Chief Security Officer, identified as Mr. Oluwole, reported the matter to the police after the deceased was found unresponsive.

Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives immediately visited the scene. SP Odutola disclosed that the body of the deceased had already been moved out of the hotel room and placed inside a vehicle, prepared for transportation to the morgue by members of his family.

Further revelations came from the deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who resides in Imota, Lagos State. Godday informed the police that his brother had recently returned to Nigeria from the United States on Saturday, November 16, 2024. He narrated that when he visited the hotel on Monday to check on his brother, he received no response after knocking on the door of Room 109, where Abidoye was staying. Concerned, he approached the hotel manager and obtained a spare key. Upon opening the room, they were met with Abidoye’s lifeless body.

SP Odutola explained that detectives documented the scene thoroughly, taking photographs and collecting evidence, including a variety of medications and traditional herbal remedies found in the room. She added, “The bed’s center was soaked with an unidentified liquid substance, raising further questions about the circumstances surrounding the death.”

Odutola stated, “The body of the deceased has been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. While the precise circumstances remain unknown, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation.”
