Authorities in Adamawa State have confirmed the arrest of two individuals linked to the brutal killing of a police officer, Inspector Ibrahim Maizabuwa. The incident took place in Swa, a community within Lafiya Lamurde Local Government Area.
Inspector Maizabuwa, who served in Gombe State, was reportedly visiting a friend in the area when the events leading to his death unfolded. His body was later discovered in a shallow grave after the suspects confessed to the crime during police interrogation.
The arrest of the suspects, identified as 67-year-old Ezekiel Kefas and 44-year-old Stephen Zabadi, both residents of Wamsa Suwa Ward in Lamurde LGA, occurred on November 19, 2024. Following their confession, the police were directed to the location of Maizabuwa’s remains, which had been buried in a shallow grave.
According to the State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Ngurojecase, the case was initially reported by the deceased officer’s son, Danlami Ibrahim Maizabuwa, who resides in Gombe State.
“Our investigation reveals that the deceased was a police officer serving in Gombe State. He had traveled to visit his friend, Ezekiel Kefas, in Wamsa Suwa, where he was subsequently killed and buried,” SP Nguroje stated.
During interrogation, one of the suspects, Kefas, provided his version of the events leading to the officer’s death.
“My friend arrived and began destroying properties in my house, including pots of soup and water. He also assaulted people. The commotion led women and children to raise an alarm, attracting local thugs who intervened,” Kefas confessed. “The thugs beat him with sticks until he died. Yesterday, we visited the homes of some of those involved, but they were not there.”
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Morris Dankombo, expressed his deep concern over the incident and has ordered a thorough investigation to ensure that all individuals implicated in the crime are brought to justice.
“The command will not rest until everyone involved in this heinous act is apprehended and prosecuted according to the law,” Commissioner Dankombo stated.
The late Inspector Maizabuwa was laid to rest on Monday, November 25, in his hometown of Bambam, Dadiya Balanga Local Government Area.
