Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been shortlisted among the final five nominees for the prestigious 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
This announcement was made by CAF via a tweet on Wednesday night, December 4, 2024.
Nnadozie is the only Nigerian player to make the final cut, as Raheedat Ajibade, did not advance despite being included in the initial 10-player list.
The other four finalists vying for the coveted award are Tabitha Chawinga, Temwa Chawinga, Barbara Banda, and Sanaâ Mssoudy.
Notably, this year’s award will witness a new winner, marking the first time since 2018 that Asisat Oshoala will not claim the title. The Super Falcons striker has won the award an impressive six times, including the last three editions.
Nnadozie has also been named among the final contenders for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, a title she won in 2023.
Furthermore, Falconets’ Chiamaka Okuchukwu has been listed among the top contenders for the Best Young Player prize. For the Coach of the Year award, Chris Danjuma of Falconets has been named among the finalists, surpassing compatriots Bankole Olowookere of Flamingos and Moses Adukwu of Edo Queens, who were included in the initial nominees’ list.
Additionally, the Super Falcons have been nominated for the National Team of the Year award, while Edo Queens are among the ranks for the Club of the Year award.
