In the early hours of Monday, December 9, 2024, in Ilorin, Kwara state, a fire resulted in the death of a 41-year-old man identified as AbdulFatai.
The incident took place at No. 158, Ile Alaparun Isale, Alore area of Ilorin.
According to the Head of Media and Publicity of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the deceased had visited his friend’s residence on Sunday but unfortunately, he was unable to escape the fire that broke out due to intense smoke, which rendered him unconscious.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by spontaneous ignition in a room containing combustible materials, including petrol, batteries, and a tire inflator engine.
The Kwara State Fire Service responded promptly to a distress call at 02:07 hours, and a fire truck with its crew arrived at the scene to combat the blaze.
The fire had already engulfed some rooms, but the firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the fire, preventing its spread to other areas.
Ultimately, five rooms were affected, while 30 rooms were successfully saved.
Unfortunately, the fire claimed the life of AbdulFatai, who was handed over to his family after the firefighting operation.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the Magaji of Ile Alaparun. He emphasized the critical importance of adhering to safety precautions to prevent fire hazards.
