20 Lives Lost in Two Auto Crashes in Jigawa State

An accident in Jigawa State, Nigeria, claimed the lives of six family members and 14 others.
The accident occurred on Tuesday night, December 10, 2024, along the Auyo-Adiyani road in Guri Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the six family members who lost their lives were returning from a condolence visit to relatives of those who died in the earlier accident.
It has been barely 48 hours since a previous crash killed 14 people in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incidents and cautioned commercial drivers to avoid overloading and excessive speeding. Adam stated that the first accident, which occurred on December 9, involved a Golf 3 wagon driven by an unidentified driver.
The driver applied a sudden brake while at high speed, causing him to lose control. The vehicle somersaulted and fell inside the bridge, killing 14 passengers on board. Adam noted that the driver is still alive but unconscious and is responding to treatment at Hadejia General Hospital.
The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, offered condolences to the surviving family members and prayed for the innocent souls of the deceased to rest in peace. Abdullahi warned motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to avoid driving at high speeds, carrying an overload of people and goods, and using hard drugs while driving.
Abdullahi emphasized that the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, will arrest any erring drivers whose actions result in the death of innocent citizens and damage to their property.
