Renowned legal luminary Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, has initiated a legal move to have Lagos-based lawyer Dele Farotimi disbarred over alleged defamation of character.
Babalola, a senior statesman in the Nigerian legal community, filed a petition through his law firm to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), seeking the removal of Farotimi’s name from the roll of legal practitioners in Nigeria.
The petition alleges that Farotimi violated specific provisions of the Rules of Professional Conduct for lawyers. According to reports from Channels Television, the elder statesman expressed deep dissatisfaction with Farotimi’s alleged actions, which he believes warrant disciplinary measures.
The LPDC, a statutory body tasked with maintaining professional ethics within the legal profession, is expected to review the petition to determine whether the allegations merit formal disciplinary action.
We await further updates as the LPDC begins its review process.
