22-year-old mother, Jessinya Mina, lost her life after being accidentally shot by her 2-year-old son.
The incident occurred on Friday, December 6, around 5:30 p.m. in Mina’s apartment.
According to authorities, the 2-year-old child found an unsecured gun in his mother’s bedroom and pulled the trigger, striking Mina with a single gunshot wound to her upper body.
The investigation led to the arrest of Mina’s 18-year-old boyfriend, Andrew Sanchez, who was booked into Fresno County Jail.
Sanchez has been charged with felony negligent storage of a firearm and felony child endangerment.
A news release stated, “Detectives learned Sanchez negligently left his loaded 9mm handgun in a location within their bedroom, where children were able to access it. While handling the firearm, the toddler pulled the trigger and fatally struck his mother with one round.”
As of Wednesday, December 11, Sanchez was no longer listed as an inmate, although it remains unclear whether he has retained an attorney. Detectives are currently working to determine the registered owner of the firearm.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in Mina’s honor to support her family during this difficult time.
