According to the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the Tinubu administration has achieved an impressive 80 percent success rate against kidnapping within a relatively short period of two years.
Ribadu made this statement at the official inauguration of the Multi-Agency Kidnap Fusion Cell (MAAKFC) in Abuja on Thursday.
He emphasized that despite the successes, kidnapping remains a pressing security threat in Nigeria, causing hardship for families, disrupting economic activities, and posing a threat to national stability.
The National Security Adviser’s remark comes amid a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealing that Nigerians paid a staggering N2.2 trillion in ransom in 2024.
Furthermore, the report stated that 2.2 million Nigerians were kidnapped, while 614,937 were killed in the same year.
Ribadu said,
“Within a short period of time, I can say less than two years, we are getting 80 per cent successes, but we do not talk about it.”
He also emphasized the need for a robust, multi-agency approach to combat kidnapping, which the MAAKFC embodies.
