The Zone 16 Command of the Nigeria Police Force apprehended six suspects in connection with various criminal activities. These activities include cybercrime, diabolical ritual actions, and defrauding foreign women.
According to SP Emonena Gunn, the Zonal Police Relations Officer, the suspects were arrested on December 17, 2024, at Progress Estate, Eneka, Rukpoku in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
This operation was carried out by the Zonal Anti-Money Laundering/Countering Financing Terrorism team, led by CSP Isaac Uhawha.
The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Chinedu (34) from Anambra State, Uche Darlington Mark (33) from Abia State, Micah Douglas (22) from Rivers State, Stephen Martins (29) from Rivers State, Jack Prosper (22) from Rivers State, and Shimkayah Oju Ibor (18) from Rivers State, were found to have impersonated a Canadian actor named Keanu Reeves.
They defrauded a Finnish woman named Kirsi of 1,300 Euros and an American woman named Brenda of 12,000 Dollars.
Upon investigation, several items were recovered, including an SUV Mercedes, a white-colored GLK 350 Mercedes Benz 2009 model, diabolical ritual items, laptops, phones, and other electronic devices, as well as Canadian Loud (hard drugs). These items are believed to be instruments used in the syndicate’s cybercrime operations.
The suspects confessed to being involved in a series of fraudulent activities amounting to over 700 million Naira. They will be arraigned in court and prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
In a statement, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to leveraging emerging technological advancements to protect Nigerian citizens, both physically and in the digital space.
