A mother has come forward to defend her pastor and church after her pregnant daughter was made to apologize in front of the entire congregation for getting pregnant out of wedlock.
On Sunday, January 5, at the True Vine Apostolic Church of Christ, Pastor Bishop Terry W. Jackson called out the pregnant member to the front of the church to apologize.
After the girl apologized, the pastor stated that the church does not condone sin and informed the pregnant member that she would not have a baby shower because there was nothing to celebrate.
The video brought about mixed reactions, with many viewers questioning why the man responsible for the pregnancy was not also shamed. Others urged the girl to leave the church, because of the humiliating treatment she received.
In response to the backlash, the girl’s mother took to Facebook to express her support for her pastor and church. “To everyone that’s concerned, we greatly appreciate it,” she wrote. “However, I do want you to know that you all are interrupting my peace and causing more damage than good.”
The mother emphasized that she and her daughter were not forced or manipulated into standing before the congregation. “My daughter willingly approached the congregation and was welcomed and embraced with open arms,” she explained.
The mother also made it clear that she stands by her pastor and the church’s teachings. “I stand on what I’ve been taught, and I’m raising my daughter to do the same,” she stated. “I stand with my Pastor!”
