CAF President Patrice Motsepe has announced an increase in prize money for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Speaking ahead of the competition, which is scheduled to take place from February 2 to February 28 and will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, Motsepe revealed that the winner of this year’s tournament will receive a remarkable $3.5 million in prize money.
Highlighting the strategic role of CHAN in nurturing football talent across Africa, Motsepe stated, “The CHAN is a cornerstone in the development and growth of Africa-based footballers and young talent. It is not just a competition but a critical platform for elevating the global competitiveness of African football and CAF-organized tournaments.”
Motsepe further elaborated on the broader vision driving these changes. “This tournament aligns with our commitment to investing in African football. Our goal is to make African football more attractive to fans, television audiences, sponsors, and stakeholders, not only within Africa but on the global stage.”
