Pope Francis Slams Trump’s Mass Deportation Plans as A Disgrace

Pope Francis has condemned Donald Trump’s plans for mass deportations of immigrants, calling it a “disgrace”.
The Pope made his comments during an appearance on the popular Italian talk show Che Tempo Che Fa, where he was asked about the Trump administration’s pledges of deportations.
“If true, this will be a disgrace, because it makes the poor wretches who have nothing pay the bill” for the problem, Francis said. “This won’t do! This is not the way to solve things. That’s not how things are resolved.”

Many U.S. bishops, including Cardinal Robert McElroy and Cardinal Blasé Cupich, have spoken out against Trump’s plans for mass deportations.
Cupich, in particular, described the reports of mass deportations targeting the Chicago area as “profoundly disturbing” and “wounding”.
“Governments have the responsibility to protect borders and communities,” he said. “But we also are committed to defending the rights of all people and protecting their human dignity.”
