It is now official, what has been hoped for by the people of Edo State. The biggest socio-political movement in Edo State and the foremost movement for leadership and governance by fairness, equity and justice, the ALIGN Movement has on Monday morning formally adopted the candidacy of Asue Ighodalo as the person that meets the criteria of the group after the group had its congress and took a decisive vote-count in the build up to the September 21 Edo State Governorship election.
In a public statement on Monday morning, the leadership of the group said “We wish to specially appreciate each and everyone of this wonderful movement and to also congratulate us on the completion of a successful Congress.
“We specially thank everyone who took out time out of their busy Sunday schedule to be around for the event physically as well as those who voted online. We have collectively demonstrated that there is strength in togetherness and that when the right things are done in a society on the basis of equity, fairness and justice; peace, love and tranquility can be achieved.
“For those whose preferred candidate didn’t win at the Congress, we also want to congratulate you. We recognize you also as one of us and this victory is for all of us, collectively. It is time for us to work together irrespective of the outcome of yesterday’s Congress.”
“We demonstrated yesterday that Nigeria can actually work and that there is indeed hope for our fragile democracy if we can get our electoral processes to work to reflect the will of the people.
“We also want to congratulate our adopted candidate from yesterday’s exercise, Dr, Asue Ighodalo of the PDP on his victory at the ALIGN Congress,” the group further said.
“Dear members of this noble movement, we are about to get into the most important period of our aims and objectives as one body, which is to work together to ensure that we collectively vote in the right person into office as the next Executive Governor of Edo State, an individual that has the COMPETENCE, CAPACITY, CREDIBILITY AND COMPASSION to lead our dear State. We urge each and every one of us to show solidarity, cooperation and loyalty to ALIGN.
“In the coming days, we shall be making preparations to ENDORSE our candidate (Dr. Asue Ighodalo) at Ogbe Stadium. Date and time of the grand event will be communicated here as usual.
“Once again, we thank each and everyone of us for this victory and congratulations on a successful Congress,” the leadership of the group concluded.
