The Niger State Government has issued a plea to the Nigerian Army to redeploy troops to communities susceptible to terrorist attacks, following a recent surge in violence.
Acting Governor Mr. Yakubu Garba made this urgent appeal during an interview with newsmen, after a 3-day Fiddau prayer ceremony for the 13 victims killed by bandits in Shiroro.
The victims were tragically ambushed and killed while en route to their farms in Anguwan village.
Garba stressed that the withdrawal of troops from Allawa and other communities has severely undermined the government’s efforts to combat insecurity in the state.
He passionately appealed to the military to reinstate troops in Allawa and other vulnerable areas, ensuring comprehensive security protection for the local farming communities.
According to Garba, the Bago-led administration has implemented strategies to combat insecurity, resulting in improved safety for commuters along Kuta, Gwada, Zumba, and Erena roads in Shiroro council.
However, the recent attack claimed the lives of displaced farmers who had left the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp.
Malam Isah Allawa, the father of one of the victims, recounted the horrific details of the attack, stating that the bandits shot and killed eight people, while five others drowned in a river while attempting to flee.
He shared that his son, Mubarak Isah, was among those killed, and that the bandits had separated the victims, tying the hands of those from Allawa behind their backs before executing them.
