Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Nigeria’s President, has launched a recapitalization grant to empower 37,000 women petty traders across the country.
The initiative, under her Renewed Hope Initiative’s Economic Empowerment Programme, aims to support women entrepreneurs in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
At the launch ceremony in Abuja, Mrs. Tinubu, represented by Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, announced that 1,000 women from each state and the FCT will receive N50,000 each, totaling N1.85 billion.
This grant seeks to help women petty traders overcome current economic challenges, expand their businesses, and create more job opportunities.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu stressed that economic empowerment for women is a key focus of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s broader reforms.
The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, echoed the significance of the initiative, highlighting its impact on women traders and their businesses.
Represented by Maijidda Musa, her Special Adviser on Social Investments, Dr. Mahmoud commended Senator Tinubu’s dedication to improving lives through investments in education, health, social investment, and agriculture.
She praised the initiative’s efforts to enhance women’s livelihoods and overall well-being.
