Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has vowed to rescue all Nigerians held captive by kidnappers.
Speaking at the Force Headquarters, Egbetokun reflected on the successful rescue of 20 medical students abducted in Benue while en route to a conference in Enugu State.
According to a Statisense report, at least 2,149 Nigerians were kidnapped in 2023, with the North-West recording the highest number of cases (759).
North-West recorded 759 kidnap cases, the North Central had 476 cases, the North-East had 408 cases, the South-South had 216 cases, the South-East had 191 cases, and the South-West had the fewest with 99 cases.
Egbetokun pledged to leave no stone unturned in rescuing the over 2,000 citizens held hostage in 2023 and 2024, as well as those abducted in previous years.
He also promised to ensure that police officers under his leadership are professional and people-friendly.
Egbetokun appreciated the support of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, other security agencies, and locals in rescuing the medical students.
To achieve an all-inclusive policing strategy, Egbetokun urged citizens to actively engage in national security and development initiatives.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, including the police, security agencies, and government entities, to realize the vision of a secure Nigeria with good governance for all.
