President, Joe Ajaero, is scheduled to appear at the Force Headquarters today, Thursday 29 August, 2024 to respond to a Police summons regarding alleged criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
This follows an invitation extended by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) 11 days ago.
NLC and affiliate unions gathered at Labour House in Abuja to accompany Joe Ajaero to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) headquarters.
Leaders of industrial unions affiliated with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), workers, civil society allies, and lawyers are expected to stand in solidarity with NLC President Joe Ajaero as he appears at the Police headquarters.
In a display of unity, the NLC has directed its state council leaders to mobilize and embark on peaceful processions to state police commands, culminating in prayer sessions.
This collective action aims to demonstrate support for the NLC President and the labour movement, which is currently facing significant challenges in the country.
Recall that the police had extended an invitation to the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, to report to their headquarters on August 20 for questioning regarding allegations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
The Police warned that failure to comply would result in arrest.
However, on August 20, human rights advocate and NLC’s legal representative, Femi Falana (SAN), provided reasons why the NLC President was unable to honor the Police invitation.
