A woman identified as Grace Markus has been taken into custody by the Nigerian Army for allegedly serving as an informant for kidnappers in Taraba and Benue states.
According to accusations, Markus engaged in espionage activities on behalf of kidnappers, facilitating the recent abduction of Malam Saidu in Benue State’s Ukum Local Government Area.
Additionally, she is suspected of collaborating with her boyfriend, a notorious kidnapper known as Chen, in multiple kidnapping operations along the border communities of Taraba and Benue states.
This information was disclosed by Captain Oni Olubodunde Markus, Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, in a statement released on September 7.
Following the recent abduction of Malam Saidu from his residence in Vesee community, Ukum LGA, Benue State, troops from 6 Brigade in Sondi village, Wukari LGA, Taraba State, conducted an intelligence-driven operation on September 6, 2024.
This led to the arrest of Miss Markus Grace, a suspected informant for kidnappers, for allegedly aiding and abetting criminal elements in the area.
Further investigation revealed that she is also the girlfriend of a notorious kidnapper, Chen, known for terrorizing the region.
The suspect is currently in custody, undergoing further interrogation to uncover the full extent of her involvement in various criminal activities.
