Abia State Council Polls: Labour Party Loses to Zenith Labour Party

Abia State’s ruling Labour Party, led by Governor Alex Otti, suffered a significant setback in the November 2 council polls.
The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) made a clean sweep, winning 15 out of 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs), while the Young Progressives Party (YPP) secured victories in Ugwunagbo and Osisioma Ngwa.
Professor Chima George, Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), announced the results on Saturday night at the ABSIEC headquarters in Umuahia. He expressed pride in fulfilling their duty, despite the challenges faced.
“We have fulfilled the duty we were inaugurated on September 5 to carry out. It wasn’t an easy task, but we made extra efforts to raise awareness about the election across the state,” Prof. George stated.
