APC Sweeps Kwara Local Government Elections, Wins All 16 Chairmanship Seats

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Kwara State local government elections, securing a clean sweep of all 16 chairmanship positions and 193 councillorship seats across the state’s 193 wards.
According to a statement released by the State Independent Electoral Commission chairman, Mohammed Baba-Okanla, and made available to the press on Sunday morning, the APC won all chairmanship and councillorship seats across the 16 local government councils and 193 wards of the state.
Five political parties contested the local government elections, including the APC, Allied Peoples Movement (APM), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Accord Party.
“The electoral process, which unfolded across the state’s 16 local government areas and 193 wards, witnessed the participation of five political parties: APC, APM, PDP, SDP, and Accord,” the statement read.
“Our electoral officers and returning officers from the field have filed their results, and I’m pleased to share the outcomes with you. After meticulous collation and verification, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all categories. Specifically, the APC has won all 16 local government area chairmanship positions and secured all 193 councillorship seats.”
The commission commended the participating parties for their commitment to a peaceful election, which did not record any major casualties. “We thank the people of Kwara State for turning out en masse to exercise their civic rights. We would also like to appreciate the security agencies for ensuring peace and orderliness throughout the voting process in a professional manner.”

  • Edu LG: APC – 23,963, PDP – 3,851, APM – 424
  • Patigi LG: APC – 14,119, PDP – 2,939, APM – 806
  • Moro LG: APC – 14,555, PDP – 1,670, APM – 117
