Bandits continue to cause havoc in Nigeria as they have once again abducted multiple travelers and killed a police officer.
This happened on the Tsafe-Funtua Road in Zamfara. Abducted travelers included an expatriate and staff members of a construction company.
Eyewitnesses recount the scene, describing how the heavily armed bandits blocked the highway at Kwanar Rogo and started shooting at passing vehicles.
A survivor, who chose to remain anonymous, shared his terrifying experience: “The bandits laid an ambush and started shooting at anything that moved.”
Among the targeted vehicles was a Toyota RAV4 Jeep transporting an expatriate, whose police escort was fatally shot on the spot. The expatriate, along with numerous other travelers, was taken hostage to an unknown location.
Rescue efforts were delayed, with eyewitnesses stating it took nearly two hours for a combined security team to arrive and restore order on the highway.
Regrettably, the delay allowed the bandits sufficient time to escape with their captives.
As of the time this report was filed, the Zamfara State Police Command had not released an official statement on the incident.
