Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has relieved Dr. Adamu Sambo of his duties as Commissioner for Health, effective immediately.
The announcement was made during a swearing-in ceremony for three new commissioners and the Chief Security Adviser, which took place concurrently with the state executive council meeting.
Governor Mohammed also revealed that his administration has decided to abolish the position of Commissioner for Local Government, following the passage of new local government legislation and the death of the former commissioner, Ahmed Jalam, in a car accident in June.
Additionally, two other commissioners had resigned to pursue local government chairmanship positions, and the Chief Security Adviser was dismissed.
During the ceremony, Governor Mohammed explained that the changes were necessary to “reposition” the government, reduce the cost of governance, and implement the Supreme Court judgment on local government.
He stated that the decision to drop Dr. Sambo as Commissioner for Health was a “leadership decision” and not a reflection on his performance.
The new appointments include:
-
Dr. Sani Dambam as the new Commissioner for Health, replacing Dr. Sambo
-
Mrs. Zainab Babbatanka as the Commissioner for Women Affairs
-
Engineer Mohammed Abdulkadir as the Commissioner for Commerce
-
Dr. Ahmed Abdurrahman as the new Chief Security Adviser
Governor Mohammed emphasized that the changes are aimed at ensuring parity and representation for every local government in the cabinet, as required by the constitution.
He also expressed his appreciation for the services of the former commissioners and assured that they will be given opportunities to serve in other capacities within the government.
