Reports have emerged of an intense gun battle between Nigerian soldiers and a group of bandits led by the notorious Bello Turji in the Sabon Birni area of Sokoto State.
Abdulsalam Suleiman Izuagbe, a senior consultant and public affairs analyst, provided insight into the situation during an interview with Daily Post on Thursday.
According to Izuagbe, the conflict has escalated to the point where it is no longer safe for commuters to travel between Shinkafi and Sabon Birni. He emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “There is a war going on in Sabon Birni; Bello Turji is facing the Nigerian Army as I speak to you. They are exchanging fire in the Sabon Birni area.”
Izuagbe further warned that the route from Shinkafi to Sabon Birni has become dangerous, saying, “It’s no longer safe for anyone to travel from Shinkafi to Sabon Birni. To think that it’s business as usual would be a grave misunderstanding of the situation.”
At the time of writing, the Sokoto State Police Command had not responded to calls or messages regarding the ongoing clash.
As the battle goes on, residents and travelers in the area are urged to remain cautious as the situation develops.
