A Missouri couple, Tyler Wade Gibson and his wife, Bailey Alexus Gibson, are facing serious child abuse charges after allegedly performing a circumcision on a child at their residence, resulting in severe complications.
According to the affidavit, Tyler Gibson is accused of performing the circumcision on November 27, despite lacking any medical qualifications.
The document states that he “knowingly performed a circumcision” on a minor in their home, causing the child to sustain significant physical injuries.
Tyler was charged with child abuse and conducting an unauthorized surgery, while Bailey faces child abuse charges for allegedly assisting in the procedure.
Authorities were first alerted to the incident in the early hours of November 28, when Columbia University Hospital contacted law enforcement. Medical personnel reported that a child had undergone a circumcision at home in Morgan County and was brought to Lake Regional Hospital for emergency care. The child was later transferred to University Hospital due to the severity of the injuries.
The affidavit details Tyler’s account of the events. He confessed to police that he performed the circumcision using a utility tool.
When questioned about his qualifications, he admitted, “I am not medically trained.”
He further explained that his preparation for the procedure consisted of conducting online research and offering a prayer. Tyler said he used sterilized blades and pads to manage the bleeding, but he underestimated the extent of blood loss, prompting the couple to seek medical assistance.
The affidavit also revealed that Tyler left the hospital against medical advice during the early hours of November 28. When asked why, he responded, “We got tired of waiting after four hours.” Despite his initial reluctance, he later reiterated his admission of performing the procedure when detained at the Morgan County Jail.
Court documents indicate that Bailey Gibson also admitted to playing an active role in the procedure.
Tyler Gibson appeared in court on December 3 to face charges. Meanwhile, Bailey is scheduled to make her court appearance on January 28, 2025.
