The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old barbing salon operator, Volte Bale, for allegedly raping a 12-year-old boy in Ugborikoko community, Uvwie Local Government Area. The suspect was apprehended on January 7, 2025, after a complaint was filed at the Ugborikoko Divisional Police headquarters.
According to SP Edafe Bright, spokesperson of the command, the victim’s father reported that his 12-year-old son was invited to the suspect’s barbing salon, where the crime occurred.
“On January 7, 2025, at about 1930 hours, the DPO Ugborikoko Division received a complaint from a man (name withheld) of Ugborikoko community, that at about 0800hours of January 4, 2024, they received a complaint from their 12-year-old son (name withheld) that their neighbour one Volte Bale, 26, invited him to his barbing salon,” Edafe stated.
Upon arriving at the salon, the suspect allegedly logged into a pornographic website and instructed the child to engage in the same activities. Edafe revealed that preliminary investigations showed the suspect had been abusing the victim for two years.
“The suspect then allegedly defiled the 12-year-old boy through his mouth and anus, and preliminary investigation also revealed that he has been defiling the victim for the past two years,” he said.
The Ugborikoko Divisional Police Officer, Agbede Zuokumour Setemi, led the investigation and apprehension of the suspect. Edafe also disclosed that the minor tested positive for severe sexually transmitted diseases. The police are taking the matter seriously, and the suspect will face justice for his heinous crimes.
