Operatives of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps have apprehended a 25-year-old man, Ojo Adewunmi, for allegedly attempting to rape a 19-year-old girl in Ilawe Ekiti. The suspect’s arrest was made possible by the prompt intervention of the Amotekun officers from the Ekiti South West Local Government Command.
According to Abiodun Adeleye, the Ekiti Amotekun Head of Communications, the suspect was caught in the act on Tuesday, and his attempt to sexually assault the girl was foiled by the arrival of the operatives. Adeleye disclosed that the victim was locked indoors by the suspect, but fortunately, the Amotekun officers arrived just in time to prevent the worst.
In a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Adeleye revealed that the victim narrated her ordeal, explaining how she felt helpless and hopeless after screaming for help until the officers arrived to assist her. The suspect has since been handed over to the Ilawe Ekiti Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.
