Emir of Kano’s Palace Renovation Plans Put on Hold by High Court

A Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Dije Aboki, has scheduled October 10, 2024, to rule on an application preventing the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from renovating the Nasarawa Mini Palace.
The Kano State government, Attorney General, and Kano Emirate filed the suit to preserve the palace’s existing structure and cultural heritage. The Emir is the respondent.
At the resumed hearing, the applicant’s counsel Habib Akilu noted the defendant’s absence and moved for an interlocutory application to restrain the Emir from reconstructing or altering the palace.
Justice Aboki adjourned the matter to October 10 for ruling on the interlocutory application and substantive suit, ordering all processes to be posted on the court’s notice board.
Earlier, the plaintiff filed an ex-parte motion to prevent the palace’s modernization, supported by a 33-paragraph affidavit. The court granted an interim injunction on September 13, restraining the Emir from proceeding with renovations.
The Chief Judge emphasized maintaining the palace’s current structural integrity until the court’s final decision.
