Fire Incidents Claim Three Lives, Destroy ₦132.4 Million Property in Kano State

In November, fire incidents in Kano State tragically claimed three lives and caused property damage valued at over ₦132,450,000.

The Kano State Fire Service, while releasing its monthly operational report, confirmed the losses but also highlighted its interventions, which included rescuing three individuals and responding to 43 fire-related emergencies during the month.

Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the spokesman for the fire service, issued a statement on Wednesday detailing the agency’s activities for November. He noted that the service successfully saved properties estimated at ₦310,600,000 from potential destruction during its operations. Additionally, the agency recorded six false alarms and five rescue calls, demonstrating the range of incidents it responded to across the state.

According to the report, the emergency responses were coordinated through the fire service’s 29 stations strategically located across Kano State. Abdullahi emphasized the importance of vigilance and precautionary measures during the harmattan season.

“I want to take this opportunity to urge the public to exercise caution in handling fire during this harmattan season. The dry conditions make fire incidents more likely and potentially more destructive,” Abdullahi cautioned.

“Motorists must ensure they drive carefully and strictly comply with traffic regulations to minimize the risk of accidents. The festive period often sees increased travel, and it is crucial to prioritize safety to prevent road mishaps,” he added.
