Spanish footballer Rafa Mir has been taken into custody on suspicion of alleged sexual misconduct.
The 27-year-old Valencia striker, currently on loan from Sevilla, was detained by authorities last night.
The Civil Guard confirmed the arrest of a LaLiga footballer but clarified that no other individuals are currently in custody.
A spokesperson for the force in Valencia stated,
“We can confirm that a LaLiga footballer has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault. The individual is currently being held in police custody.”
According to sources close to the investigation, Spanish law allows authorities to hold the individual in custody for up to 72 hours before releasing them or presenting them to a judge for further questioning.
The arrest occurred yesterday evening, but details about the alleged incident remain unclear.
Sources close to the investigation have shared information with Spanish radio station Ser, indicating that Mir and another individual were arrested in connection with an alleged sex crime involving two women at the footballer’s residence.
Both individuals are currently being held at a police station in Valencia.
Mir, a skilled footballer, has achieved success with the Spain Under 21 team and the Olympic team.
He has played for several clubs, including Wolves, Las Palmas, and Nottingham Forest, before joining Sevilla and later returning to Valencia on loan.
