Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Appears Before EFCC Over Alleged Mismanagement of Funds

Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has once again presented himself at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to address allegations of mismanagement of public funds. This follows an ongoing investigation and legal proceedings linked to financial improprieties during his tenure.

Arriving at the EFCC office on Tuesday morning in Abuja, Bello drove himself in a black Hilux vehicle and was accompanied by his legal team.

Recall that the recent Supreme Court ruling upheld the EFCC’s constitutional authority to pursue corruption-related cases.

At a previous court session on November 14, EFCC representatives requested an adjournment to introduce fresh charges against Bello. Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama presided over the hearing, granting the EFCC’s request for additional time as the summons issued against Bello was still within the 30-day legal timeframe.

Meanwhile, Bello’s co-defendants in the case, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, who are also implicated in the allegations, have been granted administrative bail by the court. Further hearings in the matter have been scheduled for November 27, where the EFCC is expected to present more evidence in support of its claims.

A public summons was issued by the Federal Capital Territory High Court, compelling Bello to appear and face 16 fresh charges leveled against him.

Despite mounting legal challenges, Yahaya Bello has maintained his innocence, with his media team refraining from addressing the rumors about his alleged involvement in financial misconduct.
