Tragedy struck in Plateau State, Nigeria, as gunmen killed five people in Bokkos Local Government Area.
The attack occurred on Monday night in Rafut village, Kwatas district, where four young men guarding their family’s homes were ambushed and killed.
An elderly man was also killed when the attackers stormed the compound.
This incident follows a security meeting with local stakeholders and is part of a larger pattern of violence in the region.
Chairman of Bokkos Cultural Development Council, Farmasum Fuddang, confirmed the killings, stating that the community has faced numerous assaults in recent months, including six fatalities in Daffo on September 3 and five in Mbar on September 16.
Fuddang’s statement emphasized that despite advance warnings, the attack occurred, highlighting the need for a civilian joint task force to address future occurrences.
The Plateau State Police Command has not issued a public statement on the killings, and spokesman Alabo Alfred was unavailable for comment.
However, in a related development, police arrested 17 suspects in connection with attacks in Plateau communities, including eight suspects from the Christmas Eve massacre.
The ongoing violence in Plateau State has resulted in over 400 deaths since the Christmas attacks, with concerns about ethnic cleansing, land grabbing, and terrorism.
The community is urging the government to take responsibility for the medical treatment of the injured and calling for the arrest of individuals linked to previous threats.
